Landmark Mental Health Conference Convened
One in five American adults experiences a mental illness each year, with young people affected at a similar rate, President Barack Obama told participants at the June 3 White House National Conference on Mental Health. “We all know somebody — a family member, a friend, a neighbor — who has struggled or will struggle with mental health issues at some point in their lives,” said the President. “And yet, we whisper about mental health issues and avoid asking too many questions.” Complete details and other SAMHSA news available here.
National Recovery Month – September 2013
National Recovery Month is just around the corner. Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for substance use and mental disorders, celebrates people in recovery, lauds the contributions of treatment and service providers, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible. Recovery Month spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover.
