The 2013 Leadership for Empowerment Academy will be May 13-17, 2013 at the Best Western Hotel in Park City.
Leadership for Empowerment Academy, sponsored by your Kansas Consumer Advisory Council for Adult Mental Health, began as a a two-month training designed for consumers who wish to develop the knowledge and leadership skills needed to become active leaders in the consumer movement and/or in the community at large. However, because of budget constraints it has been redesigned into a 1 week format followed by a service project in the community.
Participation in the Leadership for Empowerment includes:
- 5 Academy days of Sessions (Students must Attend all daily sessions in order to graduate.)
- 1 elective class in the community
- 1 community service project
The community service project will be of the student’s own choosing and will be overseen by a mentor. Most of the mentors are fellow consumers, but some may be from the general public. Academy sessions are typically held in the spring. Each daily session includes 4 class lectures and a time to work on your projects with your mentor. Attendance for the full time is required. A class consists of no more than 25 students. Graduation is held at the Recovery Conference in June of each year.
Staff and Board members of of CRO’s or those with the endorsement of their CRO are encouraged to apply. Applications are due by March 30, 2013.
