It’s important to measure how common mental illness is, so we can understand the physical, social and financial impact it has on the lives of so many. These numbers provide powerful insight for raising public awareness, eliminating stigmas and advocating for better mental health care.
Our mission is to aid consumers through education, advocacy, collaboration with community partners, feedback and equal representation. We represent and work with our fellow consumers to strengthen our voice in mental health awareness.
1 in 5 adults in America currently live with mental illness. Nearly 1 in 25 (10 million) adults in America live with a serious mental illness. Three-quarters of all chronic mental illness begins by the age of 24.
KCAC exists to help Kansans get access to mental health recovery that promotes self‐ determination, empowerment, and wellness.
Giving individuals with mental illness a platform to engage in workshops and discussions covering addictions, recovery, and wellness.
Our goal is to change the thinking behind trauma from “what is wrong with you?” to “what happened to you?”.
Advocacy allows individuals to educate members of city/state/federal leadership and legislation about the impact of mental health issues.
KCAC participates in national mental health conferences including the annual Alternatives Conference sponsored by the National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery (NCMHR), National Association of Peer Supporters, Peerpocalypse sponsored by Mental Health and Addiction Association of Oregon.
KCAC also has an incredible association with Douglas Holmes and the SUPERCRO peer group in Australia.
